Product Description Top-of-the-Line Networking Powerhouse Sets the Standard
As Onkyo's flagship model for the network generation, the TX-NR5007 offers a mouthwatering feature set designed to satisfy even the most demanding home theater purist. The expanded 9.2-channel configuration allows you to enjoy multi-zone playback as well as the latest surround formats by Dolby, DTS, and Audyssey. Advanced networking capability, meanwhile, enables you to incorporate PC-based audio and internet radio into your home theater set-up. Video signals fed through this receiver get the luxury treatment, thanks to HQV Reon-VX processing, ISF calibration, and 1080p upscaling of all video sources via HDMITM 1.3a. In the engine room, the TX-NR5007 boasts an impressive array of audiophile-grade components, including large, customized transistors to drive high currents and 22,000 ?F capacitors to support a huge and stable power supply. Add to that high-quality 32-bit Burr-Brown DACs; ultra-low-jitter circuitry; and independent power supplies for amp, video, and audio circuitry, and you have a networking powerhouse equipped to deliver an immaculate A/V performance every time.

The Home Theater Beast March 22, 2010 Thang Nguyen (Denver, CO) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I purchased the Onkyo TX-NR5007 in February 2010 to replace my Onkyo TX-SR806. Going from the 806 to the 5007 was like day and night. The sound from the 5007 is easily the best I've heard from any receiver. I work in an electronics store and I hear many units daily from the Denon AVR-4810CI and the Pioneer Elite SC-27 and they, in my opinion, can't match the Onkyo in terms of sound and features.
The new TX-NR5007 have 192kHz/32bit Burr-Brown DACs, and 4 independent power supplies for better sound. Along with those features for sound, this receiver includes the HQV Reon 1080p upscaling that even makes my HD inputs look better when compared to the Faroudja chip that was in the TX-SR806. For those interested in making the picture look even better, it's ISF certified and you can use this feature to professionally calibrate day and night picture modes for each input.
The networking features also great. I use Pandora radio a few times a week and am very happy with the quality. I had a problem setting it up though. None of the stations showed up on my internet radio until after I reset the entire receiver. This receiver can also stream music from media servers such as your PC, and it can also play music off of a USB hard drive or thumb drive.
I'm powering Klipsch XF-48's as the left and right channel, and three Klipsch XL-23's as a center channel, and left and right surrounds, along with a Definitive Technology Supercube Reference subwoofer (5.1 setup). What's surprising is that there is still room for four more speakers and one more subwoofer (9.2 setup). If you don't need a receiver that's capable of passing through 3D signals (HDMI 1.4), I would recommend that you get this receiver because I've never heard one that sounded better especially at this price point. Please make sure you can fit and carry this beast before purchasing though. It is gigantic and it weighs near 60lbs.
Onkyo TX-NR5007: thumbs up! June 4, 2010 MovieFan77 (NC) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Shipping was good for super saver. The box which is studier than average showed minimal damage and the unit showed no damage. I upgraded to the latest 2/25/2010 software using a USB stick formated to fat32 and with the .bins in the root as shown in the downloaded how to. Took 5-7 minutes not the the 30 minuted stated in the how to. No problems. Doing this over the net for me is too risky. You really don't want to muck this.
In spite of noted problems and negative reviews, I purchased the unit anyway. I am quite pleased at this point with the performance and features. The communication between the remote and the receiver froze up a few times, while adjusting the setup settings, requiring me to power off and on the unit. This unit is not for the impatient or those without logical experience. Weight is not an issue since the specifications are available online on Onkyo's and several forum web pages for anyone who cares to read them. The unit is a little warmer than the Yamaha HTR-5860 it replaces but not nearly enough to be an issue. If one must put the unit in an enclosure I would strongly recommend forced ventilation via fans. There is so much to this receiver that I learn something new about it most every day.
Read and understand the manual.
addendum: "The communication between the remote and the receiver froze up a few times" problem was due to weak batteries. New batteries corrected the problem and the remote functions very well. Love the MyTV, MYmovie and AllOff remote functions.
Top notch all the way August 5, 2010 Dub I did need to do a firmware update to this unit, but once accomplished.... Fantastic performance. The video processing and audio capabilities of this unit are unrivaled at this price point. No regrets whatsoever.
Great Receiver August 6, 2010 Jemmz Best Receiver I've ever owned. It's the Ultimate!!
The only feature that it lacks is an a/c outlet (switched) on back of unit. The receiver is extremely versatile and fulfills all my power and accessory requirements. I highly recommend this Receiver!

Excellent product!!!! August 13, 2010 Alejandro Luis Vlasich 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought one to replace my Onkyo TX-SR875. I thought that sound and quality was not going to be too different, but NO! the quality and power of sound are truly amazing. Compared with a top end Denon or Yamaha this receiver has a much much better price/features relation. Setup was piece of cake, despite after running the Audissey I didn't like the configuration, so I changed it manually. Connection to the network was a snap, internet radio works flawlessly, finds all my network media devices with no problem (UPnP or Windows), the GUI is better than its previous devices, the firmware update run smoothly and without any issue, and so on. The "clicking" sound that some person mentioned is almost not noticeable (compared to the TX-SR875 I had to pay attention to listen the clicks in this super box) and by setup can be eliminated defining default sound for each source. Use some good speakers with it (if you put cheap boxes you will be wasting your money with this receiver then) and put it in a reasonably big room (30 sqm at least) to experience its true power. And, yes, it gets hot, but nothing to worry about it. Simply, do not cover the top ventilation and you will not have any problems. The only negative comment I can do is that I almost break my spine lifting this super-heavy baby... :-))
