Product Description
Definitive has always led the industry with the best-sounding shielded center channels available. Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the main speaker in the system and often handles 50% or more of the program material. It is no place to compromise and settle for second best. Because of this, Definitive pioneered the concept of full frequency range high-definition center-channel speakers. Definitive's center channels and C/L/Rs are consistently rated as the best available, and have won numerous Audio Video Grand Prix Center Channel of the Year Awards each and every year. Our current offerings are the best ever, all featuring wide frequency response and extended dynamic range with extraordinary detail and articulation. All feature non-resonant monocoque cabinets with Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks, pure aluminum dome tweeters and die-cast-basket bass/midrange drivers in D'Appolito arrays.

5 out of 5 stars Very Full sound   December 30, 2008

I have two home theater setups in my house. One is a 5.1 and the other is a 7.1. Both systems have Cambridge Soundworks suuround sound speakers. My 7.1 system uses a Yamaha receiver that has HDMI so I utilize it, along with my PS3, to get HD audio through Blu-Ray. I was noticing that I was not getting a full sound from my center channel which was a CS MC150 center speaker. I tried switching it with my other CS center speaker from my older 5.1 setup but saw no difference. In my opinion, the sound was very tinny. And for a center channel, you don't want that since it is the primary speaker for home theater.

I decided that I had made a mistake by not investing in a better center channel so I started looking for a replacement. A neighbor of mine has the Definitive Tech. Pro Cinema 600 setup and it sounds pretty good compared to my setup. The center channel seemed a bit small so I hit the local Magnolia to check out other center speakers. I tried brands such as Mirage, Klipsch, Polk and tghe Definitives. To me, the best sounding and most full sounding speaker was the DT Pro Center 1000. I was looking to spend about $200 so this fit right into my bugdet.

I hooked it up to my system and immediatley heard a huge difference from my older CS center channel. I guess the one inch bigger size in the tweeters/mid range makes a huge difference as now I hear a much fuller sound that completely fills my room. I also find that I need to run the receiver volume lower due to the full sound. For a center channel that does notg have a built in subwoofer, it handles lower sounds very well.

I am very happy with my purchase and will probably begin to upgrade to all definitive speakers in the future. Will probably go to the pro cinema 800 for the surriunds and maybe a 1000 sub. Great speakers!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best Center near the money   January 26, 2009

I purchased this center channel after weeks of looking for the best sound at an affordable cost. After hearing many items from Klipsch, Polk, Infinity, Mirage, Bose (boo)....the clear choice was this ProCenter 1000. Nothing within $200 dollars of this speaker (besides the 2000)sounded within the same star system to me. I didn't stop at it the first time around though, I checked different setups at different Bestbuy locations because the rooms sizes differ. This speaker always impressed me. Don't waste your time on the center channels between $100-350 ($350 or so for the ProCenter 2000). If you don't want to fork out $350 or give up the extra space, get the 1000.

A very well made and good looking product. Exceptional sound for the price. These work perfectly in smaller rooms with a ProSub 800 and a ProCenter 1000.

5 out of 5 stars Good Value   November 1, 2009

Gets five stars for good sound at this price. This speaker delivers good sound at a great price. I employ it as the center speaker in a surround sound system in a 17 ft deep by 15 feet wide room with 9 ft ceilings. My opinion is that it would also work in rooms larger than this. Does a great job of anchoring the center sound. Sound quality is good, not great. But for the money it delivers. Tone is biased to mid-range and bass. Construction is excellent. Has a center screw foot in the bottom back allowing the speaker to be tilted forward if the speaker is on a high shelf. This is how I have it installed. Also has two threaded mounting inserts for wall mounting. I got the white model.

I have these matched with Def Tech Studio Monitor 350s. I paid a little less for these but I think they're worth the price. I replaced a set of Cambridge Soundworks $170 center channel and these are much, much better.
